Vegan Sailing Week Croatia

Vegan Sailing Week Croatia

Our new special autumn sailing tour with our vegan duo Matea and Marina. They will show you all the exceptional places, coves and sailing techniques and prepare exquisite vegan dishes with local groceries from CROATIA.

“What traveling by boat offers to you is to see the parts of coast and islands which you couldn’t see any other way…”

Matea – the skipper (:

Sailing by itself is probably the most in-tune-with-nature form of travel. You will surely feel it in the moment the board engine goes off and you are left on the blue sea only with the sounds of wind and water, pushed forward by the force of the sails. What traveling by boat offers to you is to see the parts of coast and islands which you couldn’t see any other way, to anchor in some hardly accessible bays and dive into the crystal clear waters.
In case you are wondering how Vegan cuisine goes with all that, or in case you are wondering what Vegan cuisine in the first place even is, we are here to answer those questions and demystify some myths for you. So this week will offer you the best of the worlds of Sailing and gourmet Vegan cuisine.

Route itinerary

Beautiful and delicious plant based food
Yum, Yum…

Our planned starting base is in Split region (Split/Trogir) and therefore the route we are taking will go to the southern Dalmatian islands. Depending on the weather and agreements with the whole crew our options for the week are islands Šolta, Brač, Hvar, Vis, Biševo, Korčula, possibly Lastovo. For every day we have an option of spending the night in some beautiful bay on anchor (which is free of charge) or visit a town (mooring in official harbor or marina where we pay for the docking).

Route example

The route depends mostly on weather conditions and crew preferences. It can be changed day by day.

  • Day 1 – Check-in at the base (marina)
  • Day 2 – Starigrad, Hvar (town/bay)
  • Day 3 – Town Of Vis, Vis island
  • Day 4 – Komiža, Vis island + Biševo (bay)
  • Day 5 – Vela Luka, Korčula
  • Day 6 – Pakleni otoci, Hvar
  • Day 7 – Return to base

As for the sailing part, depending on each of the crew members wishes, your skipper Matea will guide you through a sailing “school” up to your personal demands and willingness to learn.

Vegan cuisine

“You will get the taste of a world you haven’t imagine exists till you try it…”

Mare – the chef (:
Delicious vegan food

Veganism today is “a movement” becoming more and more mainstream. People who are not “inside” could associate it with an extreme fight for animal rights, with a form of diet or some “not tasty and bland” plant-based food which can never be so delicious as meat.

Our main goal and the reason we are offering sailing week in combination with Vegan cuisine is in the first place to debunk the myths that vegan food can not be as tasty as animal-products food.

With Mare, our cook on board, whose recipes you can check on her Instagram account (@by.night.mare) you will get the taste of a world you haven’t imagine exists till you try it, even if you were familiar with Vegan cuisine before. Delicious meals which could taste as if you are eating some sea-food or meat-loaf, or a rich tasty vegetable stew/salad/sandwich is what you can expect in that week. Twice a day. Plus snacks.

Weather and what to wear in October in Croatia

“October – those times of the year still has temperatures of up to 25°C daily maximums, a lot of sun…”

Vedran, Autumn sailing lover

No better way to combine sailing, good & healthy food than in warm weather region of Dalmatia.
Dalmatia is the name of the southern part of Croatian coast, approximately from Zadar to south. Throughout the whole year, it is a part of the land with the most sun, the least rain, and the mildest winters in Croatian region. On islands such as Vis, Hvar, Korčula those times of the year still have temperatures of up to 25°C daily maximums, a lot of sun (it can happen that a week has some colder or rainy days), and relatively warm nights (12-16°C). The sea temperature is around 20°C. The winds are usually a bit stronger than in summer, meaning also that there could be more days of stronger jugo or bora.
Since it is not “so hot” as in pure summer, it is good to have some windshield/waterproof jackets even for throughout the day on the board, because the feel of the wind could be much colder than in summer, even when the wind is of the same strength. Also, when the night comes you would like to have good clothes for sitting in the cockpit, a winter hat could be a good warm saver.
